Empathy

Abby Sue found herself in a time out the other day. She sat alone in the kitchen eating her toast. Ben does not like to see others suffer. In fact from an early age I could see that this little boy had a very compassionate soul. When others are hurting he actually looks like he is hurting with them. Often times when Abby Sue is in time out I find him sitting with her. That is what happened the other day, he came over and "suffered" with her. Naturally, Zibby saw the two of them sitting there together and must have thought to herself..."Oh, I guess this is where we're eating breakfast this morning!"

More than just green pancakes...

I have always loved St. Patrick's Day. Any holiday that doesn't involve buying gifts is so much more fun! When the kids were very little I started the tradition of making green pancakes with green chocolate milk for breakfast every March 17th. Last night we read about who St. Patrick really was. I think it must be the Irish in me, but this is a wonderful day to remember the example of one man who, by faith, took the light of the gospel to a nation that was spiritually in the dark. I know that Abby Sue and Ben were encouraged by St. Patrick's faith and so was I.

My Below Average Parenting Skills

Yes...I allow my toddler to play with pens...Yes.....I let her stick sharp objects up her nose.....Yes....that is a humongous bump on her fore head and I wasn't paying enough attention while she was hanging upside down on the swing outside! Oh and Yes..I allow her to draw on her face too! Good times!

Learning to Sew & The X-"Wigh" Fighter

I finally took the time this weekend to teach Abby Sue some of the basis of sewing. Honestly, I really only know the basics myself, but she was so sweet & eager to learn.  She loved having the freedom to create her own ideas. She made a pillow and a quilt for her doll, Kit, and then surprised me yesterday and made me a little coin purse (I was so touched and will treasure it always.) Now I can't seem to pull her away from the sewing machine. Abby Sue is such a joy. She is always so happy and loving. There is not a day that goes by when she isn't saying something hilarious or profound. She just told me the other day that when she grows up she wants to be 15. Then yesterday we were walking in the cold rain and I sarcastically remarked on what a "pretty" day it was...she enthusiastically replied..."OH..I love the rain too! It makes the prettiest sound when it comes down!" What an optimist!
The kids had a blast today decorating the giant cardboard box that our treadmill came in. They played in it all afternoon. I thought it was so hilarious & cute when I saw the name they wrote on the side...."The X-Wigh Fighter"!!! Ahhh...I'm still just cracking up at the fact that they could spell "fighter" but not "wing"!!! So precious!!!
